THEN GATHER ‘ROUND! I was thinking to myself, something I do up to two times a day (don’t want to have an aneurysm), that it would be cool if there was a page link at the top of my blog with the homepages of other storytellers. The only criteria is that you write and post your own short stories on your blog. Simple as that.
If you think that’s a good idea, drop your homepage in the comment section and I’ll copy paste it into the page link. Feel free to add other information too, like what genre you typically write or anything else you feel might be relevant. It might help drive some traffic to your site and if all else fails will be a permanent reminder to visit your blogs 🙂
Consider this a trial to see if it takes off, and if there is enough interest to warrant having the link, I’ll make it permanent. The page tab will be called something much better than this makeshift monstrosity, ‘Talented WordPress Storytellers’, but something to that effect, something snazzier.
*Jim Noonan raises a good point. What do I consider a short story? Generally anything much less than 300 is micro fiction. Flash fiction is anything under a 1000 words (depending on who you ask). So the loose criteria is if you write over 300 word stories you ‘qualify’. There’s no upper limit but as most will testify, anything much over 2500 words and you’ll have few readers. But there’s no definitive laws or logic of WordPress.
Love the idea! As I often imagine Tiny Tales of Trouble based on true photographs my Phone took you can find loads of short stories on my blog. https://thelastblogavailable.com/

Hmm. I put all kinds of stuff on my blog–stories, writing advice, commentary, a poem or two. I’m currently doing longer works; next up is a two-act play, my 18th work for the stage. JGuentherAuthor.wordpress.com.

Hi Guenther, I like your site but I’m trying to keep it to a list of mainly short stories for now. Cheers.

I like your idea, I’ll definately share it around. I have a site with a couple of friends where we post our stories, they range from about 1500-3000 words, mainly sci-fi and horror but anything goes. The site is talesofpeculiarity.com

Great idea. My stories are roughly 500 words. They’re about what has happened teaching children over the past 30 years; reading aloud, art music. Great stories. Many thanks! http://www.jenniefitzkee.com

Wow, things got busy on here real fast while I was gone. Nice effort BTW bringing folks together in a sorta pyramid scheme for writers. I will repost for sure.

I think it is a great idea. IMy short stories are not one particular genre. There are some love, others dark. Let me know if this has successful.
Thanks.

Cheers lonelyauthor, genre doesn’t really matter tbh, just the fact you write stories (which I know obviously 🙂 ).

I think this is a great idea, but I put so few of my stories on the blog I’m perhaps not the person to recruit! I wish you success with it though. It should do the job.

It’s not based on output really. If you have a link to the stories add it in 🙂

What are your thoughts on my main blog, where (hopefully) you have noticed that I run the gamut from one or two sentences to epic multi-parters? I don’t want to gum up the works of your vision, so no offense taken if your response is “thanks for the offer, but whatever you’re trying to accomplish with that mess doesn’t quite fit our business model…”

What is this “short story” you speak of, sir? Is it of word limit or structure or some metaphysical permutation yet undefined? A writing world inquires.
Well, there’s really only me, but still I wonder what parameters you use to consider a thing written, a “short story” proper. I could be on-board. I just don’t know!

Short story to me is anything over 200-300 words at the very low end, but typically at least 500+
As for the high end, I’m not keen on short stories much longer thank 10k.
