Humans: If Nothing Changed We’d Be Fine

THE last century has brought almost incomprehensible advances and mind-blowing changes in the life of the human across all sectors.
Except for psychology and thinking, which appear to be as basic as they would have been 5000 years ago or more for far too many.
Mainly because a new born child is as naïve and lacking in knowledge as they have ever been and therefore as vulnerable as ever to bad ideas and negative influences.

But what I’m leaning into is that if no more technological advances or innovations in any field happened, as a species us humans would still be spoilt.
Of course that depends on the fortunes of where and who we are born to and the vast variables, however as a general take, if nothing changed in terms of ‘progress’ and whatever that entails, we’d be content, we’d have nothing to complain for.

We have all the modern comforts we could dream of and many we never could have.
The now ubiquitous mobile phone being a notable device, a treasure trove of possibilities, an astonishing feat of engineering, electronics, and coding across numerous technological sectors.
If you’re lucky enough to live in a so called developed country, there’s food and drink in abundance.
Entertainment is everywhere.
War hasn’t been seen in most European countries in over 70 years.
We have electricity, clean running water and sewage systems.
Apart from the oceans humans have explored every nook of the earth and even been to space.

All of those things are partly why we’re in a societal crisis as to where to go next and what to do next.
It’s almost too good for most of us and progress under whatever guise now appears to solely exist from nerds in the tech sector, with a heavy emphasis on artificial intelligence, a path that many seem to be careering down with bombastic juvenile glee without much concern for the ramifications for the future or what the negative outcomes can and will be.

There’s a disturbing number of people that see AI as the key to a better future, a way to outthink planetary issues such as global warming. As in, yes climate change is a severe issue, but never mind, our boffins will create something in a lab to solve the issue.
The idea that every human created problem can always be solved by technology is not proven and is childishly fantastical in its supposed powers.
Life – the planets complicated and intertwined ecosystems – are not easily tinkered with or balanced and to think otherwise is a dangerous narrative to pursue whereby any problems we’ve collectively caused can be reversed or halted simply through some ingenuity.

The main problem as ever is people.
We are nowhere near as evolved as we assume. Some of us may be, but there’s a disturbing imbalance across classes, across borders and cultures.
The majority of people cannot even raise a child or children to a good enough standard in the year 2023.
Couples can’t stay married and seem to have little regard for what a relationship entails or what sacrifice is.
Conflicts such as Israel and Palestine have been ongoing for over 70 years, entirely down to psychological deficits on both sides, not least propaganda and persistent lies from the Israelis as just one example of countless others where the sociopathic do as they please without repercussion.

Greed, corruption, religion, racism, subservience, cowardice, murder, gross inequality, psychological/physical abuse, genocide, animal cruelty, rape, paedophilia: they are as human as standing on two legs.
And they’re not going away.

Those are the real challenges of humanity, always have been and I hesitate to type, always will be although I hope not.
Because until people learn to be good citizens, notably to be have good enough inter-familial relationships there will always be atrocities in families and then as a result in society.

We are dumb apes mostly, unable to grasp the goodness we have strived for and currently have, that current or past generations have literally died for.

Either we will end ourselves or in the current climate of fascist ‘democracies’ infecting even the most Westernised of countries we will live in a globalist authoritarian existence that will scarcely be worth existing in for the majority, and for any good that AI can be harnessed for there are thousands of nefarious and brutal applications it will be used for to push down the truth and the goodness of people, to control and allow the very worst to prosper as they are already doing.
